Hometown Help Blows Up Like Fireworks!

Timothy Bishop has been very busy within his home district. He has been making his rounds in the various communities, strengthening his relationship with his constituents while facing issues on a national level. This is a great political maneuver by Mr. Bishop, as while even though he is dealing with problems that could call into question his integrity, at the same time he is maintaining a good standing with his district, certainly securing votes for himself.
Back at home, Timothy Bishop has been working with fellow Democrats in the local primaries, looking to have local municipalities become more democratic. One major financial region, East Hampton, which encompasses most of the East End of Montauk, has been largely controlled by republicans. Now with the unrest surrounding continual development in the region and destruction of natural areas, people are looking for change. At the East Hampton democratic fundraiser at William Rayner’s House, Timothy Bishop was the keynote speaker for the event.
Timothy Bishop also has been an advocate of support for veterans, as can be seen in the Veterans Educational Act of 2008. He continued that support this past week, when on Sunday September 8th Timothy Bishop gave veterans and the families of veterans on Long Island the medals they had been denied earlier in their lives for their service. “We owe our veterans a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid, and it is an honor to help these American heroes receive their rightful recognition for service to our nation.”
While this was going on, however, national pressures have been put on Timothy Bishop. An investigative probe into the Representatives of both parties of the House, including Timothy Bishop, is underway. The accusations against him stem from his 2012 campaign, where it is alleged that he worked to allow a fireworks permit in exchange for a campaign donation. This has been disputed by Mr. Bishop since its onset. “The report released today confirms that the allegations made against me last summer were politically orchestrated, and I am confident that the ongoing review of this matter will show that I acted in good faith to assist a constituent in need,” Mr. Bishop said.
In a less negative light for Mr. Bishop, he was part of a committee that helped introduce a new bill to the House on September 12th, known as H.R. 3080, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013, or WRRDA. Through WRRDA, Congress authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to carry out its missions to develop, maintain, and support the Nation’s vital port and waterways infrastructure needs, and support effective and targeted flood protection and environmental restoration needs. “Investments in America’s water infrastructure create jobs and lay the foundation for sustained economic growth in a global economy,” said Bishop.  “This bipartisan legislation is an important first step in addressing the challenges facing our nation’s harbor and inland waterway infrastructure and I will continue to work with my colleagues to enhance the levels of investment we make to support American competitiveness.” This act is very beneficial for Mr. Bishop, both nationally as well as locally. While it obviously benefits nationally, locally Mr. Bishop’s district is surrounded on three sides by water, so this legislation is of the utmost importance.
While facing issues on a national level, Timothy Bishop continues to work at home to maintain valuable support from his constituents. While he is advocating for more democrats in the local governments of his district, he does not shy away from working with republicans to get a deal done if it means it will better his home district.

Will the pros outweigh the cons with Bishop? In the past it has been seen that one mess-up in an administration changes consitituents views forever; take for example Bill Clinton, who had SO MUCH support in terms of his presidential political agenda while he was in the White House, but then when the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke out he lost a lot of credibility.
While Bishop's firework scandal is not as severe as Clinton's, it will be interesting to see how his constituents feel about him in the coming months.
