Representative Jim Hines

Connecticut one of the smallest states in the union but was also one of the most influential in shaping our nation being one of the thirteen original colonies and also nicknamed the Constitution state thanks to recognition to the fact that the state wrote one of the first constitutions in history called the Fundamental Order in 1638. But as America grew and expanded westward the state's relevance weakened and is now viewed by some as a state with an identity crisis with either being New England or a Suburb of New York City. But I digress it's time to talk about my states representatives. It's amazing to think that a state so small could have more districts than the entire state of Wyoming and have more senators than Colorado which goes to show that “size isn't everything”. The representative I'll be talking about is Jim Hines a Democratic representative of my district the Connecticut 4th district.
Jim was born in all places Lima, Peru in 1966 but his parents were both American because his father was working in South America for the Ford Foundation and UNICEF. Jim Returned to the United States at 10 years old and got an undergraduate degree from Harvard and earned a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford. After school Jim worked for Goldman Sachs where he worked for 12 years and moved up to vice president and before his time in Congress ran the New York City branch of the Enterprise Community Partners which is a non profit organization that helps finance the construction of thousands of affordable homes in the greater New York Area. Jim now currently resides in Greenwich, Connecticut with his wife Mary and his two daughters Emma and Linley.

After looking at news articles about Hines I can tell that he is more interested with what's going on in Washington than he does in CT and I don't really agree with that. Many of the articles talk about Hines in support of the Iran Nuclear deal, the situation in the Ukraine and many other foreign affairs but not one article I looked at talked about what he was going to do with our district. To me being a congressman is like a double edge sword in that if one focuses too much on one area, either their district or Washington, than the other might have the impression that this guy could care less about us and thats's what I feel representative Hines is approaching his seat of power. I can understand why he is so focused on international affairs because they are so much more intriguing and some of these issues could change not just the United States but the world forever. But at the same time some citizens of the 4th district could care less about what's going on in Ukraine and ponder the idea that if this guy won't pay attention to us, the voters that got him in there, then we might vote for someone else. But that's just life to me in that no matter how hard one works to better all of our lives they're still going to be some piss off people somewhere. So in the end my initial opinion of Jim Hines is like Kevin Spacey in House of Cards in that he “hates this small ball crap”.

Do you think that the people of Connecticut are unhappy with Jim Hines? I wonder if they are noticing that he focuses more on the Washington side of being a representative. It would be interesting to see how people really feel about him and if any of his constituents have noticed his distance from the state.
