Is the Iran Deal (Treaty) illegal if congress never allowed mechanisms to be put in place for one such occurrence. This is the issue at hand as the Iran Deal moves forward and politicians from both sides continue to either contest the legality of this measure or support it wholeheartedly. The morality of the issue is also at play because negotiations with Iran can have very serious global consequences.
I think this issue stands as one of the major issues of the current time period. It will undoubtably contribute to security and economic problems for the world over the next two decades. Senator Pat Toomey seems to think so to, and sees this deal as not just a national security disaster but a possible legal violation by our commander-in-chief. But as Senator Toomey has expressed, there are no mechanisms in place to prevent the executive from entering into and devising agreements, as long as they do not become binding treaties. But what determines the the difference between an executive agreement and federal treaty? Once again we have reached a "legal grey area" in Washington...what a surprise.
There is no hiding that this Iran Deal will open up billions of dollars for the Iranian government, money that was previously restricted by sanctions. This would come at a time when the Russian Federation is dipping its feet back in the middle-east and the EU is distracted by a massive influx of refugees. But former Admiral Joe Sestak sees this agreement as a way to constrain Iran without starting a full fledged military intervention. The question at hand for many politicians now is "Is a bad deal better then no deal?", and I do not personally have an answer. But think of these historical treaties (Kellogg-Briand Pact, Munich Agreement and the Ribbentrop-Molotov Agreement) and the terrible and horrific affects that they had on the world.
As an American I naturally want to better the world and create opportunities for other countries to experience a quality Democratic system and other modern amenities like nuclear power. However, when a countries leader and Parliament continue to call for the destruction of Israel and the United States, even while nuclear negotiations were being held, its hard to think that the Iranian government only wants nuclear power for "peaceful reasons".
What needs to be addressed in relation to Iran and Iran ONLY (Not the entirety of the middle -east) is that Iran wants a universal caliphate established across the world, and they want every infidel converted. A deal like this would never have been conceivable 3 decades ago because our presence on the world stage was very apparent. But our allegedly unsophisticated enemy has caught on to the factually unsophisticated truth: we are an easy target and we are receding from the world stage. That is the only explanation I can give as to why the United States would enter into an agreement like with with the Ayatollahs. We are an easy target and if we take our foot off of the throat of the enemy for one minute our world changes completely.
