Change in Heart? I Think So!

Our government is currently shutdown. Our republican and democratic politicians have been unable to strike a fiscal deal to reopen our government and raise our debt ceiling (Bolton). As noted, our congressman elected by the people serving our interests in Washington have voted amongst strict partisan lines which has greatly contributed to the standstill of our government in Washington (Bolton).
This has changed however. Voting and sticking together among partisan lines in loom of the deadline to raise the debt ceiling and our government at a impasse seems to be withering away and losing support. Among nearly 70 Congressman from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, Congressman Denham has joined a coalition of politicians to form No Labels’ Congressional Problem Solvers. Their main mission: to introduce, support, and push bipartisan legislative packages in Washington in a time where Congress as a whole have refused to compromise and cross party lines (Phelps). This coalition in which Congressman Denham has joined to save tax- payers billions of dollars is an attempt to simply serve the people of the United States before politics, and work with politicians form both parties to move our country forward (Phelps).
The change in stance of our politicians and demeanor of those who weeks before stood strictly with their party politicians represents not only the mounting pressure on the government as a whole by world powers to pass legislation resolving financial issues, but also the financial ramifications if the debt ceiling is not raised and budget for the 2014 fiscal year not decided. In loom of the deadline to raise the debt celling ensuring American does not default on its loans, China has directly requested the U.S. government prevent a debt default to “…ensure the safety of Chinese investments in the United States and the global economic recovery.” (Jackson) Furthermore, our politicians at home understand the gravity of passing legislation to raise the debt ceiling to avoid another economical recession (Bolton). Senators have warned of the possibilities of the stock market plunging if our nation defaults on its loans and the budget is still not agreed upon to stimulate the running of our government and its services (Bolton).
The situation is indeed dire as evident by the  formation of No Labels’ Congressional Problem Solvers. Bi-partisan politics amongst our congressman is now possible. Politicians in Washington are finally getting the message. Congressman Denham has taken note. Putting personal party interests aside and working among party lines is critical to resolving the nation’s financial issues and re-opening the government.
