Boehner’s Stunt Backfires

Boehner’s Stunt Backfires

As we’ve noted many times on this blog, Republicans in Congress have attempted numerous times to derail The Affordable Health Care Act and have closed the government’s doors in an attempt to do so. One would have thought the Republicans would have moved on from attacking Obamacare because of the political backlash they faced from the shutdown, but the attacks keep on coming and just like many of the attacks they attempted, it backfired.

In their latest attempt, Speaker of the House John Boehner took a different approach and attempted to make a spectacle out of the sign up process when he himself tried to sign up for Obamacare. Boehner attempted to sign up for the service twice and was bumped off the server. After being knocked off the server twice Boehner took to Twitter to tweets his frustration about “trying to sign up for Obamacare.” (1) Thirty minutes after his tweet, Boehner not only got through the server, he was signed up for The Affordable Health Care Act and received a confirmation email notifying him of his enrollment. Democrats immediately took to Twitter and Facebook to blast Boehner for not only attempting to create a spectacle out of the process, but for continuing to fail to accept this new law and rally the nation around it.

From a political perspective, anything Boehner does not only represents himself as the Speaker of the House but also the Republican Party as he is the leader of the party. It’s quite clear that the Republican’s will attempt anything they can do to derail Obamacare and this is just their latest stunt in what appears to be a never-ending process. To make matters worse, the stunt failed miserably and it not only made Boehner look childish, but also it made the Republican Party look petty. (2)

If Boehner really wanted to make an issue out of a complex sign up process, he and the Republicans could have worked with The Obama Administration to clean it up and fix the issues that plague the website, but instead he went for a  cheap stunt that backfired.

It’s time for the Republican Party to accept that Obamacare has been signed, sealed and delivered. As we have noted on the blog, it’s time for Republican’s to move on to other key issues such as last weeks post, Immigration or Education which might just allow them to pickup some much needed momentum heading into the mid-term elections. If the Republicans keep continuing to try and derail Obamacare, they will lose the majority they hold in the House and Speaker of the House John Boehner will no longer be calling the shots.
